TREASURER
I started reading at a very young age. I was born and raised in Pakistan, which had an abundance of poets and authors as most of them were born before the partition of the sub-continent and lived through the unstable times of migration. They had to adjust to a new life in the new country and these extraordinary life experiences seep into their writing. My parents would summarize these poems and stories which fascinated me. “Words can be like x-rays, If you use them properly –they’ll go through anything. You read and you are pierced.” We used to go to the library at least three times a week. Every book fascinated me and we would discuss it with our parents afterwards. I moved to Fort McMurray in 2019 and started looking for a meaningful opportunity which would connect me with the community. I joined Imagination Library and it has been the most extraordinary experience. I love reading to my son and it has simulated his curiosity.
